What SharePoint licensing do you need?

SharePoint Online

• Licensed per user.
• Add to Office 365, or choose as a standalone solution.

SharePoint On-Premises

• Uses Server/CAL (Client Access License) model for intranet sites.
• Needs SharePoint Server 2016 for each running instance. Every person—or device—that accesses a SharePoint Server requires a CAL.
